Is your small business prepared to deal with an emergency?

May 3, 2010 • Managing, Planning

Did you know that, without a tested emergency plan, up to 86% of small and medium businesses will fail within three years of a major emergency? Since most small and medium businesses are physically located in a single location, they are more vulnerable than larger organizations to major disasters and catastrophic accidents.

The Canadian Centre for Emergency Preparedness has a tool to help your business develop its own emergency plan, that is Six Steps to Preparedness. The tool includes downloadable templates, as well as an example emergency plan for a fictitious business. As a responsible business owner, you are also invited to encourage your employees to develop their own personal emergency plan at home.
